Royal Presentation Of Top Award

Fiona Wright, Treasurer of the South Downs Group of the Riding for the Disabled Association (RDA), received the highly acclaimed President’s Award from HRH The Princess Royal on 14th April, at the charity’s Supra Regional Conference held at the Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst.

Fiona RDA

Fiona has been a volunteer with the group, since 1977 and has served as Treasurer for some 29 years.  The President’s Award is the most prestigious volunteer award within the RDA and is awarded for service of an exceptional nature over a period of not less than 30 years.  It is a tribute to the dedication, commitment and sheer hard work put in by Fiona over a period of some 38 years, for which she was nominated by her fellow volunteers.

In addition to giving a great deal of her time Fiona has also raised in excess of £28,000 over the years by every means possible from arranging coffee mornings to knitting socks.  Without the hard work and efforts of volunteers like Fiona many disabled adults and children would never learn about the joy and therapeutic benefits of horse riding.
